Bill in Dorset are visible and some say even Wales.
Haldon Belvedere, also
known as Lawrence Castle, is a Grade II* listed triangular tower,
originally built in 1788 by Sir Robert Palk as the centre piece
to his vast estates and dedicated to the memory of Major-General
Stringer Lawrence the founder of the Indian army.
Devon
Historic Buildings Trust renovated the tower in 1994
and is ensuring its future by opening
it to the public and providing an unique and very popular
venue for Civil
Ceremonies, corporate functions and meetings.
The
top floor of this magnificent building has been tastefully converted
into a wonderful apartment
which is available as a holiday
retreat. Dates available
for 2012 It
is hired on a self catering basis and is particularly popular
for special occasion short breaks. The views from this level are
truly stunning.
Location: You
can find us by turning off the A38 at the Exeter Racecourse exit
and following the Tourist signs for "Haldon Forest Park".
Some 2 miles from the A38 you will pass the entrance to Haldon
Forest Park but continue past this entrance and along the road
until you come down a short hill . The Haldon Belvedere is ahead,
by a junction named Haldon Gate. The drive leading to the castle
is on the right a few metres beyond this junction. The entrance
to the Haldon Belvedere visitors car park is on the right just
before the drive gates.
